Cyanotype and vintage silk thread on watercolour paper. 30 x 30 cm
‘The Scar Is Not The Memory’ is a series of 10 works, each one completely unique, which look at the difference between things that help us remember, and memories themselves. Scars are one such mnemonic object. We may look at a scar and remember the incident that led to it. Though intimately linked, the scar and the memory remain distinct.
Here, literal memories were created using the metamorphogram process. During the process, as a result of repeated folding of the heavy (300 gsm) watercolour paper, some tears appeared. These wounds, stitched up with red thread, are the scars relating to the memory underneath.
This memory and scars came from the experience of being an origami crane (orizuru).
