Serendipity led me to find a full sheet of unused labels for the Swedish match brand Tre Stjärnor. Dating from the early 20th century (likely 1920s, though the brand was used in WWI), the sheet was in poor condition as the paper was cheap and fragile with age.
The sheet, with its rips and creases acting like scars of its long lifetime, was used as a paper negative to print this image.
The image drifts in and out of focus, as if we are looking through time to view it.
